[ Yzak is watching his face closely, because he's never quite ... sure if he's doing the 'right' thing here, even when it feels right to do it. For starters, he's never done this before. It's a romantic gesture, something he's always imagined himself doing in this situation; only the freshest and most beautiful flowers carefully picked out for the person lucky enough to be bestowed with the honor of being courted by him, the greatest and most handsome partner of all time.
Of course, so many of his expectations and his dreams have been completely turned on their heads. This wasn't arranged for him, so that's a plus in that he's doing this because he wants to and because he actually had these feelings for Dearka already. Even if the flip side to that is that he's rejecting a whole lot of 'shoulds'. He never quite had a face in mind when he'd thought about this, but expectations never let him consider it'd be a man, much less his best friend.
And looking at Dearka now holding the flowers ... Yzak stares for a moment, mouth just slightly opened as if dumbstruck by how unexpectedly cute he looks with them. ]
Ah ... they suit you.
[ A compliment, an observation, a testament to his flower-choosing skills.
He quickly composes himself and picks his jaw up a moment later, stepping into the room and giving a wave of his hand. ]
Ereshkigal, of course. Now that we've decided to have more of a presence in Kyoto, she's decided to expand her shop and open up a location here.
[We'll let Yzak keep his dignity FOR ONCE, and say that Dearka manages to miss that schmoopy look on his face. Let him have his moment of feeling without Dearka potentially ruining it for him by being... Uh. Dearka.]
Aaaah, Eresh. That makes sense, heh. [At the same time that he's running through his limited memory of flower language to try and decipher these things, he's also looking up, down, and all around, bouquet still in hand, and kind of half mutters under his breath after a second:] Fuck, do I even have anything I can put these in...?
[...OK, he might ruin the moment by being Dearka anyway, actually.]
[Dearka chuckles, appreciative of Yzak's quick, solution-forward thinking.]
Yeah, alright. Should we go right now though? I don't want these to wilt, but you also just got here... I could prop em' up in something in the meantime.
Yes we should! [ The reply is immediate. ] The flowers are brand new and completely fresh, but I still don't want them to wilt even the smallest bit!
-Actually, wait. I will. You [ A sharp point. ] figure out where you're going to put them.
[ And as though that was an order he fully expects to be followed, Yzak doesn't wait for a response and turns to march determinedly down the hall.
He's also muttering to himself about ugh why didn't I think of this before why would he have a vase just there in his room I've never seen him with a flower in his life. He's normal. ]
[He stands there, listening to Yzak muttering for a moment. Contemplating whether he should do as he's told and stay put, or ignore that and go accompany his partner.
After another beat, and then Yzak will hear Dearka's heavy footfalls as he hurries to catch up, leaning over to playfully bump shoulders when he falls into step.]
We can figure out where to put them when we both get back, together. 'Sides, you know I'm no good with indoor decorating shit.
[ He doesn't slow down, sending Dearka a side glance when he bumps one shoulder and putting a hand on his opposite hip. ].
I wasn't going to be long.
[ Few minutes, tops! He knows enough of the monks by now that it would have been an quick and easy task. But that's all he says, because as if he can tell Dearka not to come with him when it's HIS birthday and he can do what he wants. ]
And, flowers tend to look good anywhere you put them, as long as they're still healthy.
[Damn STRAIGHT it's his birthday. He wants to spend as much of it with his handsome perfect boyfriend as possible!]
Heh, yeah, alright... Maybe I'll put em' on the tokonoma. It's kinda novel to have one, I might as well make use of it.
[He's actually really been enjoying the more traditional layout of the quarters in the Kyoto base... It's really invigorated his dance practices, too, being in this kind of setting.]
[ He hears that hint of joy in Dearka's voice when he speaks about the room, the reason for it clicking instantly. ]
That's right. This place is right up your alley, huh?
[ He rolls one of his shoulders. ]
I'm not used to those futons we're sleeping on.
[ Not that he can't adapt and hasn't slept in more uncomfortable places like cockpits or cramped rooms. But his room back in his home does have the nicest stuff imaginable, and tons of soft comfy pillows. He's amassed an impressive number of those during his time here, too. ]
Eh, you'll get used to em' eventually. I've heard it somewhere before that they're actually supposed to be real good for your back...
[Not that either of them are particularly prone to issues, given those coordinator genes of theirs. But presumably they quip back and forth about that for a bit until they finally track down a monk they can nab a decently sized vase from.
Fast forward to like, fifteen minutes later, and they're back in his room again. Dearka places the flowers on the tokonoma before taking a step back and framing them with his fingers. He hums thoughtfully, steps forward, turns the vase a quarter of an inch counter clockwise, and steps back again. Another quick check...?
He turns to Yzak, beams, and gives the thumbs up.]
[Dearka chortles, opening his arms as he closes the distance between them. He wraps around Yzak's waist, pulling him into an embrace, bonking their foreheads together gently.]
Uh huh. You sure you're not just saying that because you have to be nice to me today...?
[ And damn it's Dearka's birthday but it feels like his when he pulls him in close. No, Yzak will never not feel that exhilarating flutter in his chest whenever Dearka does something like this. Still, it doesn't seem very fair for him to feel like he's getting the special attention here, so after a moment of letting his bangs softly tickle Dearka's forehead when he bumps them together, Yzak tips his head and leans in to give him a light little kiss on the lips. ]
And I would never give false praise to someone, anyway.
[Just a light kiss is enough to make his stomach flutter. He loves this fussy little man so much..]
Heh... Yeah, I know. And I work hard for my kudos.
[He is going to try and repeat that kiss except. Deeper. So. Yzak better tug on his leash a bit if he doesn't want this to escalate right this second :/]

[ Oh. ]
Oh. You don't—?
Shit, I didn't consider that. [ WHOOPS!!
Thankfully, while Yzak is lowkey cursing himself for that lack of foresight, he's just as quickly shifting into problem solving mode. ]
Those monks should have some extra vases, considering all of the work they're doing with the plants outside. We can grab one from them.
